CASE STUDY

A recent project

Client = The National trust ,

LOCATION = oily hall , lode fen ,cambridgeshire, part of the great fen project

We were contacted by the national trust in march 2011 to see if we could help them with a problem , they had an area of grazed fenland which was part of the great fen vision project that they had to keep cattle on throughout most of the year to maintain the habitat, the problem was that the wet ditches that the cattle rely on for drinking water run dry in the summer months meaning that water had to be tankered in from several miles away on a daily basis to fill the drinking troughs , this tied up man power , fuel , machinery and meant that the wear to the narrow access track would be increased . The answer was to

drill and install a borehole at the fen utilising water from the deep lower greensand aquifer that underlies the area, also due to their being no nearby power supply , to source and install a photo voltaic, battery powered borehole pump system to bring the water from deep underground . Within six weeks of the initial contact we had drilled the borehole, installed , tested the equipment and the whole system was up and running = Happy National Trust , Happy environment and most of all happy cattle .
